Segal Trials Summer Kick-Off Event Celebrated Those Who are Moving the Medical Community Forward with New, Innovative Treatments for Mental Health and Women’s Health
Tuesday, July 9, 2019
North Miami, Florida – July 11, 2019: Segal Trials, a privately held network of research sites throughout South Florida and South Carolina that conduct Phase I-IV trials, celebrated their Medical Heroes during a community wellness event in South Florida. With a strong commitment to the community it serves, Segal Trials spreads awareness around clinical trials as a potential care option throughout the year. The Segal Trials Medical Heroes are an integral part of this education; they are the clinical trial volunteers helping to advance medicine.
One hundred and fifty people showed up to celebrate the Segal Trials Medical Heroes during an all-day event. In addition to hearing from our patient panel and their experiences with clinical trials, local residents also enjoyed music, dancing, food, and free health screenings. Attendees also learned about other community resources, such as the Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP), National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) Miami, Fresh Start of Miami-Dade, Obama Phone, Miami-Dade Library, Molina Healthcare, Chen Medical Center, UM IDEA Exchange, Center for Independent Living, and the American Family Financial Association.
“There is always an area of medicine advancing or something better that could be out there for you,” said Justin Cancelli, Segal Trials Medical Hero. “Living with a disease, you want to know exactly what’s on the market, and this is an opportunity to do so while helping other people.”
The Segal Trials outreach team is in the community working to educate people about treatment options available to them throughout the year. In addition, transportation assistance is provided to volunteers who are not able to travel to their appointments.
“The Segal Trials team is extremely vested in the well-being of our community,” said Bonnie Segal, Vice President and Co-Founder of Segal Trials. “It is our duty to educate people on the trials we run and celebrate them throughout the year. Our community events do just that.”
With too many individuals in our community in need of care options, the Segal Trials team is committed to understanding and meeting patient needs, connecting with them on a personal level, and engaging them with options to help them and their loved ones.
