Dr. Lapeyra received her medical degree from the Universidad Central del Este in the Dominican Republic. Prior to formal Residency training at UM/Jackson Memorial Hospital, she participated in a Memory Disorders Mini Residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach FL, a Psychiatric Observership at the Miami Veteran’s Administration, and served as a principal rater at the Miami VA PTSD program for one year. During residency, Dr Lapeyra continued her involvement with her research work, and served as Chief Resident in Psychiatry. Dr. Lapeyra has extensive clinical experience and has treated a diverse array of patients with various psychiatric and medical disorders, including substance abuse and addiction, in both civilian and military populations.

Dr. Lapeyra has been involved in clinical research trials since 1999 and has been a Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator on phase II-IV clinical research trials since 2009. She has extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient trial populations and is currently the Principal Investigator at the Miami Lakes Medical Research – Outpatient Research Site. As Principal Investigator she has worked on clinical trials for adults with Anxiety, Bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia, Depression, Alzheimer’s disease, PTSD, substance abuse, eating disorders, sleep disorders, and general medical disorders. Dr. Lapeyra is fluent in both English and Spanish and has conducted studies in both languages.

In her spare time, Dr. Lapeyra enjoys music, collecting antiques and she is a theme park enthusiast.
